On animals and in the house, fleas spread quickly. To fight against these parasites, we present some natural tips.
Recurring itching and irritation fleas are a scourge for pets. Despite the care dedicated to them, dogs and cats easily catch these small parasites that cling to their coat. Instead of resorting to chemical products such as certain insecticides dedicated to this purpose and provided that the infestation does not require the intervention of a veterinarian, here are four solutions to treat them naturally and safely.
Diatomaceous Earth
Natural, diatomaceous earth is a good repellent for animals infected with parasites. In powder form, diatomaceous earth, preferably edible, is also effective against bedbugs. To use it you must sprinkle a little diatomaceous earth at the entrance and the places through which the pet passes.
Leave it on ideally overnight and pick up the rest the next day. You can also massage the coats of cats or dogs with this powder after washing them. However, you must take precautions when applying it by protecting your muzzle.
White Vinegar
Simple and quick, white vinegar has natural properties that allow it to scare away and kill fleas. To make this little remedy, start by diluting 250 ml of vinegar in the same quantity of water. You can then use this solution as a conditioner. In addition, the vinegar will have the effect of making the hair more silky and shiny. However, be careful not to touch animals’ eyes or noses during application.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Milder, cider vinegar is a good repellent against these parasites. This can be sprayed in your pet’s environment to limit a possible flea invasion. To make it, mix half cider vinegar and half water in a spray bottle. Then you can spray on your pet’s coat. Otherwise, with a glove, apply the mixture to the coat of felines who do not like sprays. However, you should avoid using it on wounds and irritated skin.
Eucalyptus Bath
Eucalyptus also helps fight fleas thanks to its minty smell, while naturally scenting the dog’s coat. To do this, let the eucalyptus leaves infuse in a liter of boiling water for around fifteen minutes. Then, filter the water and pour it into a spray bottle. You can also pour the liquid obtained into the bath in which the dog will immerse and avoid for the cat because the plant can be toxic for felines. In this case, be careful not to touch their eyes.
It is completely normal and understandable to want to keep our home and professional environment free of unwanted insects that can cause a lot of inconvenience. Animals, whether our faithful everyday companions like dogs and cats or large-scale animals like horses and cattle, can be real magnets for various parasites such as fleas, ticks, flat flies, and many others. Mere proximity to these animals can significantly increase the risk of infestation in our own homes.
